Bear Camp News

Bob Z and Jeff Zendt were checking a bait on Elkhorn Lake when they disturbed a bear that was watching the bait from inside the blind. Another first: Blind Bear Hunting.

Check out this bear that has been coming in after dark to a bait at the south end of Spear Lake Road. Harvey estimates that it is well over 300 pounds.

we need a bigger barrel

Eleven bears have been killed so far. Here’s a picture of the first bear killed this year. Good job, Morgan!

Sayeth The Big Game Hunter

Kirk P. has fulfilled his high school yearbook ambition of becoming a Big Game Hunter. It happened Monday night at Serpentine Lake when he killed his first bear. When he returned to camp he was so excited that he jumped off his four-wheeler without shutting it off. Luckily, Tony was there to save the machine. At the celebration campfire he recounted the kill, delivered the non-farting advice, and became best friends with Mr. Goldschlager. The last words his friends heard as they were hoisting him into the top bunk (I strongly advised against this, by the way) were “I’m a Big Game Hunter”. Congratulations, Kirk P.

In other news from Bear Camp:

O.T. killed a nice 200 pound barelegged bear last night. O.T. said the bear was lying in the bushes for a while before he knew the bear was there. Maybe it was chewing the fur off its’ leg? But what I want to know is, what was O.T. doing in his tree stand? Sleeping, perhaps, or coming up with new masterful baiting techniques. Hmmm.

what a big knife you have

Here is the only existing picture of Siamese Bears. They were killed earlier this month. You have to be here to believe it!
