To the show that never ends. We’re so glad you could attend, step inside – step inside!

We’re back at camp. Janet won’t be here till Wednesday night though. The weather is beautiful here in the boreal north. It’s in the low 80’s F with no clouds today and a slight breeze. The last two days have been in the low 70’s and mostly sunny. On average, the weather must have been warm this spring since the leaves and plants (as well as the black flies) are about 2 weeks ahead of schedule. The ice went off the lake April 23rd – according to the Bullocks. Normally it goes off the first week of May so that also indicates a warm spring. The black flies are extremely friendly, I was mobbed by them the entire time I was moving the stones from across the driveway, putting up the sign, cutting several trees off the electrical wires, and drinking some beer on the beach. According to Janet’s Axiom – The sooner the black flies appear the sooner they’ll be gone! – It bodes well for a short black fly season.

I was talking with Richard Robitaille and he was saying that they were having a difficult time catching any fish! All the factors seem to be prime for excellent fishing though. I have not been out fishing yet, but was sorely tempted as I was working around the camp today. Still much to do here but I think I’ll set up a boat tomorrow so I can go fishing before Janet gets here. Janet generally sneaks down to the lake early and catches the first fish of the season. It’s one of her bragging points! Richard also said that there wasn’t as much snow as normal this winter. That explains why the lake level is a little low for this time of year. Perhaps I won’t have to tear out the beaver dam.

The camp appears to have fared the winter well. There are a few unexpected jobs provided by winter but nothing too bad. Hell, if it weren’t for the black flies and the leaves not being completely out, I would think it were late July!
